Lucio Dalla (March 04, 1943 – March 01, 2012), eclectic and eccentric Italian singer-songwriter, died this morning in Switzerland during a European concert tour at the age of almost 69.

Lucio Dalla, whose musical genres ranged from pop to jazz to classical, has sold millions and millions of records, just ”Caruso” to mention a masterpiece sold 9 million copies worldwide.

Promoted by another Italian singer and songwriter, Gino Paoli, Dalla started performing in the 1960s. In 1977, Dalla’s first album with songs written by himself — “How Deep is the Sea” — came out. He produced new albums nearly every year over the next few years, including the popular “Banana Republic.”

Rest in Peace!
